Unattended Children Policy
The Library Board and the Staff of the Greensburg-Decatur County Contractual Public Library encourage children to come to the Library and explore the possibilities the Library has to offer. However, we are concerned about the welfare and safety of children when they are left unattended. As a result of this concern, the Library Board has adopted the following policy:
Children ages 6 and under must be accompanied by and directly supervised at all times by a caregiver while on Library premises unless the child is attending a Library-sponsored program that does not require parent attendance.
Children ages 7 and 8 must have a caregiver in the building.
Children age 9 and older may be on Library premises without a caregiver as long as they adhere to the policy regarding proper behavior in the Library.
Parents attending meetings at the Library must:
- Leave their children at home,
- Keep their children with them in the meeting, or
- Have them adequately supervised by an accompanying caregiver
The Library is not responsible for the care and safety of children while they are on the Library premises and assumes no responsibility for unattended children. If a child is left unattended on Library premise, a staff member will attempt to contact a parent. If a parent cannot be contacted, the Police Department will be notified.
Caregivers for children on Library premises must be 14 years of age or older.
