      WELCOME TO THE CHILDREN'S ROOM!

      The Children's Room provides a wide variety of materials and programs for our younger library visitors. Materials that can be checked out include books, videos, DVD's (small collection), magazines, cassettes, books with cassettes, and even comic books! Check out our selection of Newbery award winning books and the current Young Hoosier book candidates. Other special collections also include a teachers collection and holiday books.

      The Children's Room has: 

      • An Activity room
      • Two study carrels
      • Reference area with materials suitable for ages 6 - 14.
      • Study tables
      • A restroom with a changing station
      • Two OPACs
      • Textbooks on reserve (furnished by the schools)
      • Notebooks with Accelerated Reading lists for each school (furnished by the schools)

      PROGRAM INFORMATION

       

      Ask the librarian about registration for our Preschool Storytimes for ages 3 - 6 and our student programs for grades 1 and up. Storytime is more than stories!

      A monthly calendar of events is available at the Children's Desk.

      TODDLER TIME STORIES (AGES 18 TO 36 MONTHS)

      • Four weekly sessions for parent and child
      • Currently offered during September, November, January, March and June.
      • Children hear stories
      • Sing songs
      • Participate in a variety of activities
      • Do simple crafts

      PRESCHOOL STORYTIMES (AGES 3 TO 6)

      • Five times to choose from per week.
        • A 12-week session begins in January.
        • An 8-week session offered during the summer.
        • Another 12-week session begins in September.
        • Registration begins 2 weeks prior to each class.
        • Class limited to 25.
      • Hear stories
      • Sing songs
      • Participate in fingerplays and action poems
      • Do easy crafts
      • Different theme featured each week.

      STUDENT PROGRAMS (GRADES 1 AND UP)

      • Two different programs each month.
        • Craft Time
          • Meets 2nd Saturday of each month.
          • 1-hour session from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. unless otherwise noted.
          • Required registration begins 2 weeks prior to each session.
          Craft or Family Time
          • Meets 4th Wednesday of each month.
          • 45-minute session from 4:15 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
          • Required registration begins 2 weeks prior to each session.
      • Programs centered around special themes
      • Holiday craft program
      • Other craft programs
      • Programs are presented on Tuesday and Wednesday during the summer and on Saturdays during the school year
